"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." - 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
There are some who would pick another time, another day, for the good steward to consider the financial costs of funding the God given mission of “go and make disciples...” and to set ministry priorities. The images of “stewardship” often conjures the same images “fundraising” does in the minds of many. Perhaps we do not know the difference in using the term “stewardship” and the term “fundraising”. Civic organizations do fundraising all the time for their charitable work. People instinctively know that those organizations need money so that they might keep their doors open. When the faith community enters into its budget process and asks for pledges from its members, it is said that all the church is interested in is money.
Your donation to the church is personal. It is about your relationship with God. It is about your ownership of the mission He gave to you and that you share with us (the church). The mission of go and make disciples; baptize and teach.
Others will say that security and safety is in the things that we hold but we are asked to trust in God with our time, talents, and treasures.
Hollywood seduce us with pleasures but we are to listen to God with what to do with our time, talents, and treasures.
Wall Street plays on our fears but we understand that everything that we have comes from God.
It is to God that we give our time, talents, and treasure.
